Planting the seed: promoting engineers with global awareness.
The theme of the conference was “Planting the seed: promoting engineers with global awareness”. The world needs engineers that know how to establish a collaborative culture in their workplace and how to deal/communicate/negotiate with people from different countries and cultures. Engineering schools and faculty need to help their students to develop socio-emotional and intercultural skills that will provide the future engineer with the competence needed to work in complex global contexts. Active learning strategies and methods can be great tools for the development of these skills. By defining this theme, we aimed to raise awareness to ensure a guarantee of personal dignity, the free flow of persons without any discrimination, and the right to effective equality between women and men. Renowned keynote speakers from the Engineering Education and Sustainability areas were present in this PAEE/ALE edition, sharing their experience with the participants. Besides, the offer of hands-on sessions generated learning-by-doing experiences that allowed experimentation and discussion of the proposals presented. The International Conference on Active Learning in Engineering Education (PAEE/ALE’2022) was a fruitful forum where participants, in their permanent need for continuing education, had the opportunity to discuss research and current practice under this challenging theme of promoting engineers with global awareness.
